Director Bio
Dee Garceau is an historian-turned-filmmaker who teaches at Rhodes College. "We tell stories so we can inhabit them, and these stories shape how we work and love, shape how we dance." Currently she is working on a film about powwow dancing among the Salish-Kootenai and the Blackfeet tribes in Montana.

Synopsis

Dancers stomp out complex rhythms with verve and precision, drawing from folk traditions like the ring shout, playing the dozens, and handclap games. This film explores the history and brotherhood of stepping, a dance form created by black fraternities and sororities. Live footage from step shows, practices, and interviews with dancers reveal communities bonded by a deep sense of social responsibility.
