Synopsis

At the age of 88, Leah Chase continues to live with inspiring energy, joy, and principals. She and her family restaurant, Dooky Chase’s, have become important symbols in the community, and agents of meaningful change. By hosting interracial meetings in violation of the law during the civil rights movement, Mrs. Chase risked her livelihood and the safety of her family to fight for justice. Her struggles and triumphs have created a remarkable person, whose dynamic presence is captured for a few fleeting moments in ‘Chasing Dreams’. She expresses her fears and her anxieties about the future, but never loses her unfailing optimism that good people will work hard to bring about positive change. ‘Chasing Dreams’ takes you behind the scenes and into the life of Mrs. Leah Chase, offering her wise, enlightened, and playful point of view. Capturing Mrs. Chase’s daily work in her restaurant, her plans for the future, and her intimate conversations with family, friends, musicians, and artists, the film brings her inspirational story to the world.
