Special Programs

This year, we are proud to present several non-screening programs to add value to your festival experience. All programs are free.

Jean-Pierre Leaud: King of the Nouvelle Vague
Sunday, April 23 at 6:15PM before The Death of Louis XIV

More than any other actor, Jean-Pierre Leaud’s career is linked with the French New Wave. Loyola professor Mike Miley will offer a free 30-minute talk that shows how Jean-Pierre Léaud (star of films from The 400 Blows to The Death of Louis XIV) represents not only the French New Wave but modern French cinema as we know it.

Mike Miley teaches literature at Metairie Park Country Day School and film studies at Loyola University New Orleans. His writing has appeared in TheAtlantic.com, Bright Lights Film Journal, Critique, Music and the Moving Image, The Smart Set, and elsewhere.

“Le cinema et les mots”: French Culture Classes
Wednesday, April 26 at 12:30PM before The Death of Louis XIV
Sunday, April 23 at 12:30PM before The Young Girls of Rochefort

Manon Bellet from le français à la carte will offer short presentations on two films, followed by a short reading in French of selected dialogue from the films, as well as a lesson in vocabulary and French expressions about cinema in general and the films in particular. See the grid for specifics about when these classes will take place.

Saturday, April 22 7:00PM Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes
