October 22 – 24
Screening at The Broad Theater
Trans FitCon in Atlanta is the only bodybuilding competition open to anyone who identifies as a transgender male. The film follows four men training for the competition at various stages of their transitions. Mason competed in mainstream bodybuilding until being barred from a local championship after his transgender identity was revealed. Meanwhile, in Arkansas, Kennie begins hormone therapy while he tries to maintain a relationship with his girlfriend. Man Made takes us through joys and tragedies, disappointments and small gestures of acceptance. For these men, the competition offers unprecedented inclusivity, a space where they aren’t the exception, but the celebrated standard. -KM
