How do you remember ACORN? Does the name evoke local marches, the legislative battles for social justice, or the headlines accusing members of supporting prostitution rings? Regardless, the memory of ACORN remains in the public unconscious and helps inform our perception of politics today. At the center of this influential organization is Wade Rathke, a youthful redheaded intellectual who, with the skill and charisma of a startup founder was able to create an international movement to empower low-income communities. Using archival footage and extensive interviews with past and present members, The Organizer presents the rise and fall of an organization that represented the democratic ideals of an entire demographic. -LA
