América wakes up every day to the busy movements of her grandson, Diego. At 86, she’s physically reliant on all three of her grandsons to help her with everything, but Diego is the most devoted to her. The vitality of América and her grandsons must be genetic—each one of them is a star in their own right: they cobble together work, host community meditation groups, perform dance routines on stilts, and run a local surf shop. Directors Erick Stoll and Chase Whiteside shot the film over three years in sun-drenched Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and the result is a colorful evocation of a period of family time that we all know too well—moments that frustrate us at the time, but populate our memories with joy. -KM
